Construction Site Preparation

Prepare the foundation for expected traffic loads. Ensure the substructure is water-permeable friendly, such as HPB (High Performance Bedding). For high traffic loads, use a 3/4-inch clear stone bedding with an optional geo grid for driveway or parking lot use.‍

Preparation

Ensure there is a water-permeable substrate. Tape off adjoining surfaces that are not to be affected. Clean and dry the aggregate before using Rock Lock binder.

Note: Wet or dirty aggregate will negatively affect the finished result.

Cleaning (if Required)

Ensure the stone is clean before use. Dirty aggregate will negatively affect the end result. Contact a Glow Safety representative to determine the best way to clean your stone.

Mixing‍

Follow the mixing ratio in the consumption table. Typically, for ¼” clean aggregate, mix approximately 200 - 250 lbs of stone with each set of Rock Lock (2:1 ratio). Mix the two-component resin together for 90 seconds before adding aggregate or mulch. Ensure the stone is clean and dry before adding the two-part resin compound.

Application

Pour the mix onto the prepared surface. Distribute if necessary and level to at least 50.8 mm (2”). Smooth and level using screeds, magnesium trowels, and smoothing trowels. Ensure good light compaction and avoid impurities.

Tool Maintenance

Use vegetable oil on tools during the installation process. To clean tools afterward, use paint thinner, rubbing alcohol, or soap and water in a squirt bottle. Apply these to the tools after installation to keep them clean. The mixer should be periodically cleaned to prevent build-up, especially on hot days. Paint thinner and some clean stone are a great way to keep the mixer clean every 1-2 hours.

Subsequent Treatment

Protect the freshly jointed surface from rain for 12-24 hours. Do not lay the rain protection layer directly onto the surface; a raised cover must be used. If this is not possible, the project should be postponed until the right conditions are present.

For heavy-use or commercial surfaces like parking lots, ensure a minimum surface depth of 10 cm (4”).

Important Notes

Test a sample surface if uncertain. Ensure the washed gravel is completely clean and dry to avoid loss of strength due to dust or dampness. Use Glow Safety-approved aggregate and call before installation.
